Introduction

Fraud and impersonation are serious problems on matrimonial platforms. Mrs Khan's Matrimonial Services Limited (SC864954) is committed to protecting our members from romance fraud, identity fraud, and misrepresentation through robust preventive and detective controls.

This policy should be read alongside our Profile & Identity Verification Policy and Acceptable Use Policy.

1Types of Fraud We Prevent

  • Romance Fraud: Creating a false emotional relationship to extract money or information;
  • Identity Fraud: Using another person's identity, photographs, or credentials to create a profile;
  • Catfishing: Presenting a false persona to deceive another member;
  • Financial Fraud: Soliciting money, gifts, or financial assistance from members;
  • Information Harvesting: Collecting personal data for purposes other than matrimony;
  • Account Takeover: Gaining unauthorised access to another member's account.

2Our Preventive Controls

  • Multi-stage registration verification (see Profile & Identity Verification Policy);
  • Manual review of all new profiles before activation;
  • Reverse image checking of profile photographs against known fraud databases;
  • Monitoring of communication patterns for indicators of fraud;
  • Staff training on romance fraud indicators and reporting procedures;
  • Collaboration with Action Fraud (UK) and the National Crime Agency (NCA).

3Verification During Registration

All new registrations are subject to our identity verification process. Details are set out in our Profile & Identity Verification Policy. In brief, this includes email and mobile verification, photograph review, and profile information consistency checks.

All profiles are reviewed by a human team member before being made visible to other members. We do not use fully automated approval processes for new accounts.

4Warning Signs of Fraud

We advise all members to be vigilant for the following warning signs:

  • A member claims to be based overseas or to be travelling for work;
  • Communication escalates very quickly to declarations of strong feelings;
  • Requests for money, gift cards, or financial assistance;
  • Reluctance to meet in person or video call;
  • Profile photographs appear professional or glamorous beyond typical context;
  • Inconsistencies in personal details across conversations;
  • Pressure to communicate outside our platform very quickly.

If you notice any of these signs, please report them immediately. Never send money to any person you have not met in person and whose identity you have not independently verified.

5Reporting Fraud

Report suspected fraud to us immediately at mrskhanmatrimonial@gmail.com (subject: "FRAUD REPORT β€” URGENT"). You should also report to:

  • Action Fraud: 0300 123 2040 / actionfraud.police.uk;
  • Your bank: If any money has been transferred;
  • Police Scotland: 101 (non-emergency) or 999 (emergency).

6Consequences for Fraudulent Conduct

Any member found to have engaged in fraud, impersonation, or material misrepresentation will be permanently banned from our platform, their details shared with Action Fraud and law enforcement, and may face civil and criminal proceedings. No refund will be issued where membership is terminated for fraudulent conduct.
